Evaluations: Dr. Danis specializes in comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluations of children from birth to age 15 years. A neurodevelopmental evaluation is considerably different from a routine pediatric examination. Most developmental evaluations consist of several visits; the number of visits and the exact testing done will vary depending upon the age of the child and the nature of the child's difficulty. Following the evaluation, a detailed report will be sent to you. The report is a summary of the Doctor's diagnostic impressions and a list of recommendations for intervention services. > Click here to GO to the New Patients page ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This evaluation takes place in one session lasting about two hours. If necessary, Dr. Danis will do additional testing in specific areas of concern. During the visit, Dr. Danis will review any previous medical records or assessments, take a developmental and medical history, and perform a physical and functional neurological evaluation, including developmental testing. Dr. Danis will discuss her diagnostic impressions of your child and recommendations for intervention at the conclusion of the visit. > Click here to GO to the New Patients page ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toddlers to Five Years of Age: Two visits plus written summary.
The evaluation takes place in two visits. The first visit is two hours in length. During this visit, Dr. Danis will ask questions to get a more complete history of your child and more details about your current concerns. While this conversation is taking place, Dr. Danis will observe your child playing freely with toys. She will observe how your child plays, how your child interacts with yourself and with her, and how your child copes with being in a new place in an unstructured free play situation. The doctor is also observing your child's motor skills and language development. After this interview/observation period, the visit moves into an examination room for more formal developmental testing. Here Dr. Danis works with your child to more specifically evaluate strengths or challenges in the realms of gross and fine motor development, language, problem solving and self-help skills. A physical examination is also done. If your child is in school or involved in intervention services, Dr. Danis makes telephone calls to teachers and therapists if this is felt to be helpful. The next visit is 90 minutes in length. This is a summary conference with the parents only. At this time, Dr. Danis will discuss the results of the assessment and recommendations for intervention. > Click here to GO to the New Patients page ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Five Years of Age and Up: Three visits plus written summary.
